Anqi Zhang

AI for A Shared Future

I am a PhD candidate in Information Systems at the J. Mack Robinson College of Business, Georgia State University. My current work investigates how the deployment of service robots alters customers' psychological state and behavior, with particular attention to spatial privacy, data privacy, and the boundaries that govern professional intimacy.

My dissertation triangulates a randomized field experiment in a hotel, a multi-stage psychometric scale development, and a controlled laboratory experiment. Together, these studies examine when the same service behavior, performed by a robot or by a human, produces fundamentally different perceptions of privacy, comfort, and quality.

Methodologically, I am drawn to mixed designs of behavioral experiments, applied microeconometrics, and computational methods. I am on the academic job market for the 2026 to 2027 cycle.

Teaching 教學

On apprenticing students into the craft of careful empirical and critical reasoning.

傳道 · 授業 · 解惑

My teaching draws on the three tenets articulated by Han Yu (768 to 824 CE) in his essay "Discourse on Teachers": to transmit the Way, to impart expertise, and to resolve doubts. I treat each tenet as a distinct posture toward the student. The first asks me to expose students to wider habits of attention, especially the discipline of asking what would have to be observed for an estimate to be "wrong". The second asks me to serve as ferryman, accompanying students from familiar shores to those just beyond their reach, and at times only pointing across rather than carrying them over. The third asks me to refuse presupposition, to meet each question at the place curiosity actually begins.

My inspiration as a teacher comes from my mother, who worked as a high school teacher for over 30 years and served as a role model for me.
